Students appear for Alliance Française exams

Sixteen students from Aljamea Surat appeared for the DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) A1 French language diploma examinations at Alliance Française in Ahmedabad this month. The DELF and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education to prove the French-language skills of non-French candidates. Alliance Française is the only French Language Learning Institute authorised by the French Embassy in India to deliver certified French proficiency diplomas.

In the 8th year of the 11 year course at Aljamea, students are required to select an elective language in addition to the mandatory Arabic and English which are studied in-depth throughout the duration of study at Aljamea. As modern and classical languages of scholarship, the luga thālitha, or third language as it is often referred to at Aljamea, is an important element of the dissertation research students carry out at this stage. The additional language capacity also better equips students for leadership roles they may be called upon to fulfill after graduating from the academy in different parts of the world. Students choose between French, Persian, German and Sanskrit and appear for certification examinations where possible.

Over the past three years, a total of 40 students have appeared for the DELF A1 examinations and successfully acquired diplomas.
