As part of Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah Karachi’s golden jubilee celebrations, the videography department organised a filmmaking competition with an aim to inspire and engage students interested in the art of videography.
According to the guidelines of the competition, students were required to form their own production units keeping in mind the many elements that constitute a successful filmmaking venture. From video and sound editing to scripting, lighting and direction, students sought out their peers and formed units on the basis of shared interests and requisite skills.
Eight groups containing a total of 70 students participated in the competition. Training sessions were conducted by department members and independent professionals to furnish the participants with technical know how at every stage of the competition.
After being reviewed and appraised by professionals in the field, the top features were premiered at the annual prize distribution ceremony.
The top prize went to ‘A tale of Talents’ which took the viewer through a nostalgic sequence of recollections triggered by a single photograph. The intertwining journey of three aspiring students with a passion for calligraphy, vocal recitation and the memorisation of the Holy Quran, celebrated the conducive environment and platform provided by Aljamea to its students for them to excel in their fields of interest.
The second position was awarded to ‘Academic Development’ which explored the academic life of a student at Aljamea.
‘A Split Second’ which took the third position focused on the dedication and hard work required to excel in the field of sports.
‘The Story Behind the competition’ coming in at fourth position took a meta look at the entire competition drawing focus on the intricacies involved in planning and executing a film.
The holistic approach to education at Aljamea nurtures not only the academic aspect of a students life, but puts rightful emphasis on vocational and skill based training to ensure that each graduate has a proper grasp of what it takes to succeed in today’s modern world and is well equipped to take on any challenge.
